Dog Training Guide - Tips
on Finding the Right Training Guide
Finding the right
dog training guide can be a difficult task. There are so
many guides and training methods to choose from, that it’s
difficult to determine which one is really the best.
Fortunately, there are some criteria that you can look at
that will help you to determine if the guide you are
considering is the right guide for you.
The Dog
Trainer
The first
step in finding the right training guide is to evaluate the
authors of the guide itself. Choosing a guide that was written
by a dog trainer with very little experience will no doubt fail
to provide you with the knowledge you need to get the job done
right.
You want to
choose a book or guide that is written by an experienced and
certified dog trainer. These authors will have many years
experience in dog training which have enabled them to provide
dog owners with effective and efficient dog training methods
that actually work. You should spend some time researching the
authors of the guides you are considering so that you can
determine whether or not they actually are experienced dog
trainers, or someone that is just trying to make a few bucks
selling a book.

The
Training Program
The next
step in finding the right training guide is to look for a guide
that offers a training program that will work for you. If your
dog already has basic obedience training and you are looking to
start teaching tricks, then you need to search for a program
that teaches tricks. If you are a beginner dog trainer with no
experience in obedience training, then you need to seek out a
book that is written in easy to understand language that is
made specifically for beginners.
Some
training programs are breed specific. These programs can be
quite effective at training a specific breed dog, but they are
not always necessary. You don’t always need to purchase the
more expensive guide for training a pure bred dog, when a
lesser expensive guide to basic obedience will often suffice.
Don’t be fooled into thinking you need one particular guide.
Instead, take the time to research the training program itself
and the author of the program to determine if you think the
training methods contained will work for you.
Avoid Fly
by the Night Training
Every so
often a unique and new training method that is the next best
thing will pop up in the dog training world. These types of
training programs should be avoided, because they are often not
very effective. These new “fad” training programs are nothing
more than people trying to make money by saying that their
program is more efficient. Many times, these programs will fail
to provide the results that you are looking for and are often
very difficult to teach to your dog in the first place. Rather
than wasting your money on these types of programs, you are
better off searching for an obedience training method that is
tried and true.
If you take
these factors into consideration, and thoroughly research the
dog training guide you are considering buying, you will be much
more successful in your endeavors. Choosing the right guide is
essential at properly training your dog, and once you follow
these few tips, choosing the right guide will come
easily.
